PD MEDIA LAB

Developers and Programmers

Openings available both in the Press Democrat newsroom and in the PD Media Lab:

• Take a lead role on development and programming in support of newsroom CMS programs. Push the digital development envelope, taking the content from the leading newsrooms of the North Bay and executing innovative new products to serve readers. Create cutting-edge apps for Apple, Android and other devices. This position requires a high level of creativity, curiosity and aptitude. The ideal candidate will be a highly-motivated self-starter who works well under deadlines in team-oriented settings.

• Develop and program digital solutions for PD Media Lab clients. Work with a client-focused agency team to deliver creative websites, mobile sites and SEO through programming and digital development. Background in digital development for business clients preferred.

Responsibilities include:

• Provide technical support for newsroom online CMS and all online editorial sites.

• Create, or assist creating, creative news applications such as data-driven maps, databases, mash-ups, aggregators, apps, widgets and mobile tools that will either standalone or be paired with other journalist content.

• Work closely with the online team in Santa Rosa and third-party vendors as they write code and manage application services across the site.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Specialist

The Press Democrat's PD Media Lab is seeking a SEO Specialist who will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to scale high-impact SEO programs relating to indexation, content, customer conversion, and linking for our digital clients. Qualified candidates must have experience implementing search engine optimization strategies and be able to keep up on, and communicate, industry developments, trends and social media strategies to clients, sales representatives and technical team members. The preferred candidate will enjoy studying trends, researching social media campaigns and, above all, enjoy working in a motivated, team-oriented environment.

This position is responsible for:

• Implementing search engine optimization (SEO) strategies to improve traffic and performance of websites.

• Managing multiple client website/PPC campaigns, organic promotions, etc.

• Monitoring online campaigns and making recommendations to improve key performance metrics and drive revenue

• Creating SEO summary reports for clients.

• Working with other team members on a regular basis to review website / campaign performances and ROI.

• Content: Keyword research, generation, and analysis

• Linking: Internal and external linking strategies

• Staying current with all Social Media industry developments and best practices.

Job Requirements:

• Knowledge of search engine marketing (PPC)

• Knowledgeable in common advertising and analytics tools, including: Google Analytics, Google Adwords, Yahoo & Bing Search Advertising, Facebook Advertising, etc.

• Understanding of on-site and off-site SEO.

• Familiarity with basic HTML, CSS, XML sitemap submissions, and code structure preferred

• Strong project management and inter-departmental coordination skills.

• Proficient computer skills are required.

Graphic Designer

The Press Democrat is seeking a talented and creative individual to join our team. An ideal candidate will be excited to be in a fast paced company that moves quickly on a constant flow of ideas and has the drive to exceed expectations. Part-time, temporary internship

The North Bay Business Journal, a division of Sonoma Media Investments, has a part-time temporary position that includes research for its Commercial Real Estate Leasing Guide and compiling of digital newsletters. This could be a great opportunity for college students with an emphasis in business and/or marketing to gain practical work experience and academic credit. This position is partly responsible for contacting commercial Realtors and developers in the Sonoma/Marin/Napa area to create a database of available properties for lease. Other tasks could include compiling and proof reading digital newsletters or other.

Responsibilities/requirements include:

• The Commercial Real Estate Leasing Guide requires the ability to research of the local market to ensure that all available Realtors/developers are included in the publication

• Other job skills include ability to interact and communicate professionally in person, via phone and email

• Strong database/computer skills required

• Knowledge of WordPress or other website content management software

• Ability to work under deadline and in a group environment

• Strong organizational skills required

• Prior sales experience preferred

This leasing guide project is expected to take approximately 200 hours (5-20 hours per week varying on workflow process). Weekly hours are flexible, but must be completed during normal business hours. Candidates are expected to work July, August, September and October. Compensation is $14.00 per hour.
